FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MANY PHOTOGRAPHS SHOULD I SEND?
You can send me as many photographs as you wish to, there is no limit on the amount of photos I am willing to view to help you choose the best photograph for your portrait. The best way to send your photographs to me is via email, please see my contacts page.

WHAT ARE THE BEST PHOTOGRAPHS?
For me to be able to create a portrait of your pet I need to work from high quality photographs. They need to be clear, with high definition so that I can see all the small details that make your pet so special. For more information on getting the right quality photographs see my your photographs page. You can also see example of the photographs previous customers have sent me when you go into my portfolio pages and view individual portraits.

HOW LONG DOES A PORTRAIT TAKE TO COMMISSION?
Waiting times vary depending on my workload and the time of the year - for a more approximate idea of completion time please feel free to contact me. Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks for any deadline. (If necessary shorter deadlines may be able to be met depending on current commissions) For christmas orders, please order as early as possible.
(I also work full time in retail so if you're looking for a pet portrait in a limited time scale it may not always be possible.)

DO YOU TAKE COMMISSIONS FROM OVERSEAS?
I am based in the UK but will take commissions worldwide. I have currently sent portraits overseas to Pennsylvania, New York, Texas and Minnesota in the US and also to Canada, Italy and Australia. When commissioning from outside the UK please keep in mind the currency conversion rates and the postage and packaging prices. For more information see my prices page or contact me directly.

WHAT MEDIUMS DO YOU OFFER?
I offer a variety of different mediums for you to choose from, and the decision is completely yours. If you need some advice on which medium would best suit your pet please contact me. I offer watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil and graphite pencil mediums. All these medium will need framing unless you choose to opt for acrylic on a deep edged canvas board which can go straight onto the wall.
HOW SHOULD I FRAME MY COLOURED PENCIL PORTRAIT?

I do not spray my coloured pet portraits with a fixative spray due to discolouration when used. For this reason please be careful when handling your portrait prior to framing. Coloured pencil does not smudge in the same was as graphite pencil, but it is still important to be careful with handling your portrait.

In my opinion, simplistic frames work well with coloured pencil portraits. Black and white, simplistic arrangements often work well highly detailed and coloured portraits. Overly ornate frames can detract from the portrait, let the work speak for itself.

It would be a good idea to take your new portrait to a professional framer, to ensure longevity. Your portrait can become damaged in many ways from environmental conditions in your home, i.e humidity, to the type of mat used when framing. Some matts contain acid which in long-term cases can yellow work. I advice you take your piece to a framer who can provide 100% acid free materials to frame your portrait.
